Write bold text on LinkedIn

Type or paste your text, select the words to highlight, then pick a style. Copy, paste into LinkedIn, done.

With nothing selected, the style applies to the whole text.

Why LinkedIn has no bold button

The LinkedIn post editor offers neither bold nor italic. Private messages do not either.

The trick everyone uses relies on special characters. They look like bold letters, but they are different characters, meant for maths formulas.

Since they are real characters, they paste anywhere: posts, comments, profile headline, messages.

How to use the tool

Type or paste your text into the box. Select the words to highlight, then click the style you want.

With nothing selected, the style applies to the whole text. "Normal" brings back the original letters.

Click "Copy" and paste the result into LinkedIn. Accents are kept.

The available styles

Bold works for a hook or a keyword. Italic marks a nuance or a quote.

Bold italic catches the eye even more, so keep it for a single passage.

Underline and strikethrough add a line to each letter. How they look varies a little from phone to phone.

Where to use it

In a post, make the first line bold. It is the line people see before "see more".

In your profile headline, one bold word is enough to make your job stand out.

In a private message, keep bold for practical details: a date, a time, a price.

Before you make everything bold

Screen readers read these characters badly. A visually impaired person may hear a list of symbol names instead of your word.

LinkedIn search does not always recognise them. A bold keyword may no longer be found.

So keep bold for a few words, never a whole paragraph. Your hook gains, and your text stays readable for everyone.

The post attracts, the conversation sells

A good post brings comments and messages. Those are what turn into booked calls.

The hard part comes next: replying fast, then following up with the people who go quiet after the second message.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write in bold on LinkedIn?

LinkedIn has no bold button. Type your text into the tool on this page, select the words, click "Bold", then "Copy". Then paste the text into your post or message.

Does bold work in LinkedIn private messages?

Yes. These are characters, not formatting, so they work in posts, comments, messages and the profile headline.

Are accented letters kept?

Yes. The tool keeps the accent on the transformed letter. On a few phones, the accent may sit slightly off.

Does it hurt the reach of my post?

LinkedIn does not say it penalises these characters. Its search and screen readers do read them badly, though. Keep bold for a few words and write your keywords normally.

Can I go back to normal text?

Yes. Select the passage and click "Normal". The letters go back to their original form.
