Create a WhatsApp link with a pre-filled message
Type your number and, if you like, the first message. You get a link that opens a chat with you straight away.
What a WhatsApp link does
A WhatsApp link opens a chat with your number, without the person saving you as a contact.
They click, WhatsApp opens, and your opening message is already in the text box. All they have to do is press send.
It is the link to put in your Instagram bio, your email signature, a sales page or a story.
The right number format
WhatsApp expects the number in international format, with no plus sign, no spaces and no leading zero.
A UK number 07700 900123 becomes 447700900123. The tool does this conversion for you.
Pick the country code, type the number the way you usually write it, and the link updates.
If you paste a number that already starts with + or 00, the selected country code is ignored.
Writing the pre-filled message
The pre-filled message is optional, but it changes a lot.
It says where the person comes from. "Hi, I found you through your Instagram bio" saves you asking for context.
It also removes the blank page. Many people click, do not know what to write, and close the chat.
Keep it short and in the first person, as if the prospect wrote it. They can still edit it before sending.
Test before you publish
Always open the link once on your phone before you share it.
Check that the chat opens on the right number and that the whole message shows. Accents, emojis and line breaks come through fine.
The link does not expire. As long as the number is on WhatsApp, it keeps working.
After the first message
The link brings in the conversation. The sale happens in the messages that follow.
Many conversations stop after two or three messages, with no clear no. Those are the ones to follow up on, at the right time, with the right context.
Frequently asked questions
How do I create a WhatsApp link?
Write your number in international format, with no plus sign and no leading zero, after https://wa.me/. For example https://wa.me/447700900123. The tool on this page does it for you and adds the pre-filled message.
How do I add a pre-filled message to a WhatsApp link?
Add ?text= at the end of the link, followed by your message encoded for a web address. Spaces become %20, for example. The tool encodes the text automatically, accents and emojis included.
Does the WhatsApp link work with WhatsApp Business?
Yes. A wa.me link works the same way for a regular WhatsApp account and a WhatsApp Business account. The number just has to be registered on WhatsApp.
Does the link expire?
No. A wa.me link does not expire. It stays valid as long as the number is active on WhatsApp. If you change numbers, create a new link.
Is my number stored anywhere?
No. The link is built in your browser. Nothing you type on this page is sent to or kept by Ficiel.
